Resources
As a lifelong learner and devoted bibliophile, I believe knowledge is power, and that understanding yourself can be deeply empowering. I’ve created this space to offer thoughtful answers to common questions about counseling, psychoeducation to supplement our sessions, and a curated collection of my favorite psychology and self-help books and resources to help you continue learning, growing, and becoming an active participant in your own healing.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
You don’t have to arrive with everything figured out. In fact, many people come to therapy knowing that something isn’t working but not knowing exactly what they need or where to begin. That’s okay.
Part of my role is to help you make sense of what you’re experiencing, ask thoughtful questions, notice patterns, and create a direction for our work together. You can bring the messy, uncertain, unfinished version of your story. We’ll begin there.
-
A difficult experience with therapy does not necessarily mean therapy cannot help you. Sometimes the approach was not the right fit, the timing was not right, or you needed something different from what that therapist was able to offer.
If you’ve felt like previous therapy gave you plenty of insight but not enough change, or like you were understood but still felt stuck, I’m especially interested in exploring that with you. We can talk openly about what has and has not worked before and use that information to shape our work together.
While I have a clear theoretical framework that guides my therapeutic process, I do not counsel any two people the same way. My services will always be highly individualized and attuned to meet your unique needs, capacity, tolerance, goals, and desires for growth.
-
It makes sense to feel vulnerable when you’re considering sharing parts of yourself that you may hvae hidden from other people. My role is not to decide whether you are “good” or “bad,” but to understand you in the context of your experiences, relationships, and the ways you learned to navigate the world.
I will offer compassion without pretending that everything is okay when it isn’t. You can expect me to be honest, curious, and nonjudgmental while we explore even the parts of yourself that may be difficult to understand or accept.
-
Therapy does not have to begin at the point of crisis. You might be functioning well on the outside while still feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward.
In fact, a large portion of clients I work with have adapted and survived to a degree that they appear highly successful, yet are suffering in silence because they are over-functioners and over-intellectualizers who need a therapy style that is quite differentiated from standard talk therapy. I am highly skilled at supporting this demographic and a wide spectrum of clients, ranging to the ones who are just starting from scratch.
You don’t have to wait until something is “bad enough” to deserve support. Therapy can be a place to understand yourself more deeply, change patterns that are no longer serving you, navigate a transition, or simply create more freedom to live in a way that feels authentic to you.
-
We don’t have to uncover everything all at once. As the client you have the power in the therapeutic relationship to set the pace. This process is a collaborative one. Even though I have clinical expertise, you ultimately are the expert of your own experience and we are equals in my therapy space.
Trauma-informed therapy means paying attention to your readiness, your capacity, and what is happening in the present while we explore the past.
Understanding where a pattern came from can be incredibly valuable, but insight should never come at the expense of your ability to function in your life today. We will work at a pace that allows you to build understanding while also developing the skills and stability you need to move forward.
-
Insight is valuable, but knowing your patterns and being able to change them are not always the same thing.
You may already know where something came from, understand your triggers, recognize your attachment patterns, or be able to explain exactly why you respond the way you do. That doesn’t mean there is nothing left to explore.
Sometimes the next step is moving from understanding to integration: practicing different responses, tolerating uncomfortable emotions, challenging beliefs that no longer fit, learning to play a new, more adaptive role or identity expression, and creating meaningful, sustained change in the here-and-now.
-
Validation matters. Feeling understood matters. These will also be a part of a larger process, but I believe therapy should help you transform.
I will never challenge you simply for the sake of challenging you, but I also won’t be afraid to lovingly confront patterns, contradictions, or blind spots when doing so could help you grow. I never shy away from the uncomfortable, but my goal is to create a relationship where you feel safe enough to be honest and supported enough to hear the truth when it needs to be heard first, so you can receive that uncomfortable truth in a meaningful way.
-
Finding the right therapist is a deeply personal decision, and I don’t believe you should have to choose someone because they have the right credentials on paper.
That is one reason I offer a free 15-minute consultation. It gives us an opportunity to learn a little about one another, talk about what you’re looking for, and discuss how I work. I want you to have enough information to make an informed and empowered decision as to whether my approach, personality, and style feel like a good fit for you. Therapy is a collaborative process where your voice will be honored. The therapeutic work that is most important for you simply cannot happen unless we build a relationship that truly feels right for you. I am committed to nourishing that relationship with you!
What’s on My Bookshelf?
Consider this your invitation into my personal library, a thoughtfully curated collection of books for the curious, the healing, and the becoming.
Before pursuing my master’s in clinical mental health counseling, I spent a year reading anything and everything that sparked my curiosity and passion. That exploration helped me heal and discover my purpose. My hope is that these resources empower you to better understand yourself, embrace who you are, and celebrate who you’re becoming!
